(painting) Irises is one of several paintings of irises by the Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh, and one of a series of paintings he made at the Saint Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France, in the last year before his death in 1890. Van Gogh started painting Irises within a month of entering the asylum, in May 1889 Tony Curran, who starred as Vincent in that instalment, is on screen at the end of the Meet Vincent Van Gogh Experience, along with the late Kirk Douglas, who portrayed the artist in Lust for Life

14. Released from the asylum on May 16th, 1890, Van Gogh moved to a village near Paris known as Auvers to be close to Theo. A Doctor Paul Gachet kept a close eye on him and advised him to devote his time and efforts to art. Van Gogh experienced a burst of creativity and constantly painted with a newfound eagerness. 2.] Van Gogh chopped a piece of his own ear. Van Gogh was indeed an eccentric character. He was close friends with Paul Gauguin, another famous artist. During an epileptic seizure, Van Gogh attempted to attack his friend Paul Gauguin with an open razor.
