Clean out the contacts on both the back of the 3hr and charger they both get filled with wrist gunk. Use a toothpick or something similar to get it all out and make sure it gets good contact to the pins. If its charging you should get the garmin logo or battery percentage on screen after a few seconds.

Generally, Garminās ELEVATE technology is good for steady-state runningā¦less good for everything else unless you are lucky. If you are expecting quality mapping you will be disappointed. The mapping features from the Fenix 2 were removed (buy a Gamin Epix for maps). The Fenix 3 is not a SATNAV.
